I was just reading your forbes article "...Hi. I was just reading your forbes article "If you don't understand banks, don't write about them". I have a question regarding deposits. Where do deposits of broad money go when corporations send it to the bank for paychecks for example or when someone deposits $100 in either cash or check? Does that money go to the central bank and then the bank borrows that reserve money from the fed when it needs it to make a payment for someone? If banks are creating money, how do they have any reserve fund? Is this just money borrowed from the central bank that they are paying interest on? You mentioned reserves are not capital so i think that's where I'm getting confused. Probably confused on the concept of electronic base money as well. Appreciate any insight you can provide as I found the article really interesting.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13685495683353167470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8764541874043694159.post-71726834529989196542023-03-20T08:07:29.681+00:002023-03-20T08:07:29.681+00:00Great Post! That's why I think Silvergate could have breached the tangible capital rule. The note from the American Banker's Association that I linked in the post calls for the FHFA to adopt regulatory capital rules to prevent smaller banks from losing funding because of unrealised fair value losses taken through OCI. The call report for Silvergate shows they had the AOCI opt-out. So the security classification shouldn't have affected Tier 1 or CET ratios. It appears that AOCI opt out is allowed below $750bil total assets. As I recall, Brainard dissented from AOCI opt-out being expanded for $250-$750bil asset banks.

https://www.federalreserve.gov/supervisionreg/srletters/SR2002a1.pdfMatt Watershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11819415702193198144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8764541874043694159.post-64007907927122536832023-03-01T07:35:58.919+00:002023-03-01T07:35:58.919+00:00The compensation in question is for the financial ...The compensation in question is for the financial (and other) consequences of not being properly and promptly informed about the changes to the state pension age - not about the loss of the pension itself.Hilaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02932487641329330100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8764541874043694159.post-59675330533414599482022-11-30T08:02:16.017+00:002022-11-30T08:02:16.017+00:00Not really. Was wondering if your last paragraph could be applied to the stock market as well where there may be market makers, who also own hedge funds, engaged in activities such as those mentioned in the article? Or in the case of the stock market, would it be possible for a market maker to "provide bona fide market making activities" i.e. naked shorting of stocks for its own hedge fund to fulfil failure-to-delivers?Delusionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04673779762241615487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8764541874043694159.post-71472041943636417242022-11-11T20:00:58.474+00:002022-11-11T20:00:58.474+00:00How can be crypto withdrawals suspended?
